Clarity and Control: The New AML Checks from InfoTrack
InfoTrack has introduced a redesigned Anti-Money Laundering (AML) check that gives legal professionals greater clarity, consistency, and control in their client due-diligence processes. In a recent webinar “Clarity and control: The new AML checks from InfoTrack,” Head of eCOS Sales James Reeve and Head of Product David Rawson outlined how the updated solution supports firms working in an increasingly high-risk regulatory environment.
The conveyancing sector in England & Wales has faced heightened AML scrutiny over the last year. Today’s Conveyancer recently reported that five conveyancing firms were fined a combined £118,000 for AML failures ranging from inadequate client checks to missing risk assessments, illustrating how quickly fines can escalate when processes lack consistency or clarity.
Against this backdrop, firms need AML tools they can rely on - solutions that give them confidence in the results and support defensible, well-documented risk management. InfoTrack’s enhanced AML check is designed to do exactly that.
Why InfoTrack Introduced the New AML Check
Client feedback made it clear that firms want both flexibility and consistency in how AML is carried out. While many practices use InfoTrack’s eCOS platform to run biometric identity checks alongside AML screening, there are frequent scenarios where a standalone AML check is more appropriate. Some clients present ID in person; some cannot complete a digital journey; and some matters don’t require full electronic document verification.
Rather than offering two AML routes with different report formats, firms have been asking for a unified, standardised experience so that whether an AML check is completed digitally or manually, the outputs are equally clear, consistent, and easy to interpret. This consistency has become increasingly important as regulators expect firms to justify their decisions and maintain clear audit trails.
The redesigned standalone AML check achieves this by adopting the same structure, layout, and data sources as the AML component in eCOS.
A Clearer, Unified Reporting Framework
One of the most impactful changes is the switch from the previous “compliant / non-compliant” outcome to the clearer “pass / review” format used within eCOS. Firms can now see immediately whether further action is required, an essential safeguard when AML errors can delay transactions or expose the firm to risk.
The updated report includes:
- An intuitive overall result
- Automatic PEPs and sanctions monitoring for 12 months
- Commentary explaining why a “review” has been triggered
- AML guidance developed with TEAL Compliance
This standardised structure makes internal reviews, audits, and SRA queries far easier to manage. Given the fines conveyancing firms have faced in recent months for failures such as inconsistent due-diligence and missing documentation, clear reporting is more than a convenience, it is a compliance defence.
Simplified Ordering and Transparent Pricing
Previously, firms needed to choose between different AML variants—standard or enhanced, UK or international—which created uncertainty and sometimes unexpected costs. To address this, InfoTrack has consolidated everything into one comprehensive AML check, priced at £7.50 including VAT.
This single check automatically covers UK and international searches, simplifying ordering and enabling firms to communicate disbursements to clients with confidence. It also aligns with InfoTrack’s pay-as-you-go approach: no licenses, subscription fees, or minimum usage commitments.
Works Seamlessly Alongside eCOS
The refreshed standalone AML check is designed to complement, not replace, InfoTrack’s eCOS Verification of Identity (VOI) workflow. eCOS remains the most comprehensive route for verifying identity: authenticating passports biometrically, matching live facial images, and checking documents against global databases in line with HM Land Registry’s Safe Harbour standard.
However, as discussed in the webinar, firms frequently encounter situations where standalone AML screening is more appropriate:
- A client has already shown original documents in person
- Technology limitations make a digital journey unsuitable
- The matter requires AML, but a full digital ID check is unnecessary
- Firms prefer to carry out manual ID verification supported by external data
In these circumstances, the new AML check provides reliable verification of address, date of birth, PEPs, sanctions, and adverse media risk, all within the same consistent reporting framework. Supporting ID documents can also be uploaded and appended to the report.
Confidence Through Consistency
The redesigned AML check reflects InfoTrack’s commitment to helping conveyancing firms navigate an increasingly challenging compliance landscape. With fines in the sector rising sharply and regulators expecting robust, well-documented risk assessments, firms need tools that deliver clarity and stand up to scrutiny.
By unifying reporting formats, simplifying ordering and pricing, and ensuring compatibility across both digital and manual onboarding workflows, InfoTrack’s enhanced AML solution gives firms the confidence, control, and auditability they need to manage risk effectively.
